Aphex Continuums
Commissioned by Ignacio Sarube for the grand opening of NS2 ESTUDIO—PELO (Hair Studio) in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Aphex Continuums transforms the Art Deco space into an immersive realm of fragmented and reimagined reflections. At its core, the main intervention, Aphex Arcan, disrupts the expected elegance of the original fireplace with a sprawling, shattered mirror installation. This kaleidoscopic fragmentation invites visitors to confront a play of light, space, and self—an impossibility of singular reflection that mirrors their transformative journey.
The space folds and refracts, borrowing glimpses from both outside and within, bending the house’s architectural contours into something entirely new.
In the styling and cutting area, Vilanova’s three totemic structures emerge: raw concrete fused with mirrored surfaces, blending brutalist sensibilities with the house’s Deco flair. These 360° navigable sculptures, 260 cm in height, blur the boundaries between reflection and solidity, interiority and exteriority.
The project embraces transformation, where architecture and self intertwine, echoing the profound shifts sparked by changes in physical appearance. In every mirrored shard, Aphex Continuums amplifies the house’s geometry into a layered, cinematic experience.
